Leadership & Service Week

CISV Jax invites any current 8th and 9th graders in 2020-21 school year to participate in a service and leadership week from July 17-24.

Here’s the proposed camp schedule

  • Sat or Sun: 1 day minicamp
  • Mon: 1/2 day CISV Step-Up activities and 1/2 day at a like-minded organization participating in a service project
  • Tues: 1/2 day CISV Step-Up activities and 1/2 day at a like-minded organization participating in a service project
  • Wed: 1/2 day CISV Step-Up activities and 1/2 day at a like-minded organization participating in a service project
  • Thurs: 1/2 day CISV Step-Up activities and 1/2 day at a like-minded organization participating in a service project
  • Fri: 1/2 day CISV Step-Up activities and 1/2 day at a like-minded organization participating in a service project
  • Sat: 1/2 day debrief about the camp

Kerry McClure, an experienced CISV leader and teacher, will lead the group and we are seeking other leaders to maintain an 8:1 child to adult ratio.

If you are a current 8th or 9th grader and would like to participate, apply here. Please have 2 people complete the reference form here.  One of the people providing the reference should be a current teacher.

This program is based on CISV’s international Step Up week but with additional focus on local service opportunities. It’s educational goals are

Develop leadership skills

  • Express personal ideas to promote group development
  • Suggest solutions to conflicts
  • Facilitate a group
  • Take responsibility for an activity, project or problems

Be willing to take initiative in own community

  • Identify issues and conflicts in own community
  • Show willingness to contribute to own community
  • Identify ways to use new knowledge in everyday life
  • Act inclusively towards others

Increase awareness of your local community 

  • Increase knowledge of current social issues
  • Cooperate with people from different community groups
  • Understand and contribute to the development of the camp theme
  • Participate in discussions about the content area of the year (2021 Human Rights)

Develop as a person

  • Show confidence in group discussions and activities
  • Plan and run activities
  • Work as part of a team
  • Listen to others’ ideas and be open-minded to different points of view
