How can CISV operate these complex programs as an all-volunteer organization?
Who does the work?
Volunteers like you and me! Thousands of dedicated people devote many hours to CISV programs around the world because they have experienced the special, rewarding feeling that comes from making new friends around the world and learning about other cultures and ways of life. These volunteers want others to experience the same feeling, and they want to give something back to the organization that means so much to them and to their children. When your family becomes involved in CISV, parents will have the responsibility to serve as a volunteer in some capacity. Volunteer responsibility is for 2 years. There are dozens of jobs that must be done…some big, some small, but all are very important to our success. We must have families who are willing to do their share so all the work is not done by just a few. Sixty countries…182 Chapters worldwide…25 USA Chapters…3,500 members in the USA alone. We hope you, too, will be a part of CISV and see why so many care so much!
In order for your child to be considered for selection as a delegate for a CISV program, you must commit to the following minimum volunteer activities on behalf of the Jacksonville Chapter for the next two years:
- Attend CISV 101, a one hour orientation session;
- Attend all meetings of your child’s delegation that include parents;
- Do your family’s fair share of the work for your child’s delegation;
- Complete and submit all required insurance and health forms by the due date;
- Attend the spring and fall general membership meetings;
- Help with whatever program CISV is hosting that summer or winter in at least one capacity (serving meals, hosting delegations (if any) over opening weekend or mid-stay weekend, helping with set up and break down of the camp, getting meals donated, helping with transportation);
- Actively recruit delegates and leaders/staff members for CISV programs as follows: (a) each delegation is expected to host a CISV information meeting in the fall after their child returns from camp and the following fall to which each family in the delegation is expected to invite a minimum of 3 families who have children the appropriate age for CISV programs the following summer; and (b) each family is expected to tell their child’s school teachers about CISV and to ask the school teachers to recommend other children and families for CISV and to consider applying as adult leaders themselves.
- Attend all fundraising events and help with fundraising activities
- Become an active member of at least one CISV Jacksonville working committee.
Parents are expected to spend at least 24 hours per year volunteering for CISV (excluding time spent supporting your child’s delegation (items 1-5)) or, alternatively, the volunteer hours commitment can be “bought out” for $1,000 per year.
I commit to the above minimum requirements.
Parent Commitment Agreement
This agreement establishes a parent's commitment to support the chapter for 2 years in connection with their child's selection for an international program and the chapter's expectations for parents to volunteer.
