A Message from CISV Jacksonville President Michael Magevney

Dear Friends,

Join us Monday, Sept 21 International Peace Day at noon for a minute of silence. Then spend the next 17 days to explore and practice the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as part of CISV’s 2020 Year of Sustainable Development.  More information is below and here.

Let us know if you are interested in CISV in 2021 by completing a survey: Families or Leaders. We are offering a virtual interchange over the summer 2021. More info below.

On October 25, we will announce our 2021 Programs, elect officers, and conduct other chapter business.  This is an online meeting. Register to attend here.  JB will offer an online activity also that day.

CISV USA is looking for volunteers for the national Board’s professional network.  If you volunteer, the CISV USA may consult with you on matters related to your professional experience.  This would not be a significant time commitment.  Volunteer here.

Join CISV USA and other global communities, September 21 at noon.
A Wave of Peace will pass across the globe, traveling time-zones as participants observe a minute of silence in honor of International Peace Day with the hope that more people set an intention and commit to
Peace above all Differences and to building a strong Culture of Peace.17 days for your Family or Pod to Practice Peace
International Peace Day observation and commitment kicks off our biggest CISV USA 2020 Sustainable Development event of the year, Ride the Peace Wave 17 Day Challenge! 
Join other CISVers, friends, and community members as we share in the mission,
CISV educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world and
showcase CISV 2020 Year of Sustainable Development.
Spend the next 17 days to challenge yourself daily in conjunction with
the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world.
Registrants will follow along on their own or as a pod/family and
commit themselves to make small changes to make a positive difference.
Then October 8th, CISV founder Doris Allen’s Birthday,
share your ideas and activities and help flood Social Media with positivity.
REGISTRATION: ALL are welcome.
Tell your friends-family members and
share with your classmates, teachers, community to help make a difference!
Registration will be available from now through October 8-
participate as you can and as much or as little as you like-every effort helps!
All registrants will receive:
  • Event BIB to wear and share your activities
  • Calendar with the 17 Day Sustainability Challenge and Celebration Day to honor CISV Founder Doris Allen
  • Peace Pledge to sign and commit to Peace above all Differences!
  • Resource Packet and Participation Certificate following the event
2020 is the Sustainable Development year in CISV, register today to make positive change.

Program Interest Survey

CISV Jax will select its 2021 programs at the online football pool on October 17th
and we would like your input on which programs to select.

CISV USA is offering a virtual interchange with children living in the Middle East or who are refugees from the Middle East. The interchange will happen over 6 weeks in summer 2021 and will include at least 15 hours of programming.  Let us know if you are interested in the virtual interchange in the survey. 

 

There is a lot of uncertainty about whether Americans will be allowed to travel and whether it will be safe.  CISV is exploring Covid-19 safety protocols with winter camps in preparation for summer programs. Please note that you would not be charged for a program that is cancelled, if governmental restrictions prevent travel or similar events occur. We understand that it is difficult to predict that the state of the world will be in summer 2021 with the pandemic.

So it is particularly important for us to know
whether you are interested in 2021 programs.

Summer 2021 Programs

JB Activity- Cultural Showcase:  Join the Junior Branch for an online meeting to showcase your culture and ethnic background on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2:00 to 3:00 pm.

Show us your cultural dress, make a dish, teach us a phrase in your language, show us a dance in your culture, or anything that can be presented over our call.

Tell us why you created it, and its significance in your culture.  Are there people in your culture struggling with national issues at the moment? And how does your culture celebrate certain occasions?
Reveal Event:  At the end of the JB activity, we will have the Fall General Meeting and Reveal Event from 4 pm to 5:30 pm.  We will elect chapter officers  and you’ll learn the dates and locations of our 2021 programs.  Please share with your friends who may be interested in CISV programs.

Treasurer’s Message
The scuttled travel and hosting season has decimated our revenue and nullified our largest variable cost – hosting. Yet, we have many “sunk” costs from preparing for the 2020 season, and we still have non-hosting related operational costs including the fees we pay to CISV USA for their critical support of our national association.
We are working on a strategy to help cover these costs. It includes:
  • Recover airfare paid for Leader training travel that was cancelled;
  • Collect unpaid Application Fees and Membership Dues;
  • Put the CISV Store online in time for Holiday shopping!
If you have not yet paid your Application Fee or Membership Dues for 2020, you will receive a reminder in September, by email and post mail. We ask that you honor your commitment to CISV Jacksonville’s mission to inspire action for a more just and peaceful world by settling these charges.
