Summer 2019 Programs

JB Activity:  Join us for a fun sample of CISV activities from Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:30 pm to 4 pm.  Kids age 10 to 18 are invited to join us for typical CISV activities to get to know each other, play fun games, and build cooperation and teamwork skills.  We would like all experienced CISV kids to bring their friends to this action-packed event.  This event is intended for kids new to CISV as well as CISV veterans.

Reveal Event:  At the end of the JB activity, we will have the Fall General Meeting and Reveal Event from 4 pm to 5:30 pm.  2017 CISV delegates and their leaders will be recognized and you’ll learn the dates and locations of our 2019 programs.  Please bring your friends who may be interested in CISV programs.

2019 Interchange programs

We are happy to announce our interchange opportunities for 2019.  We will have 2 opportunities.  Applicants can apply using the forms at www.cisvjax.org/apply
  • Age 12-13: Amsterdam – 2 weeks hosting in Jacksonville and 2 weeks in the Netherlands.  Tentative dates are hosting in Jax: June 27 to July 15 and travel in  the Netherlands: July 18 to Aug 4. Youth are eligible if they have birthdates between 6-1-2005 to 8-31-2007.
  • Age 14-15: To be Announced – 2 weeks hosting in Jacksonville and 2 weeks in the other country.  Tentative dates are hosting in Jax: June 27 to July 15 and travel in the other country: July 18 to Aug 4. Youth are eligible if they have birthdates between 6-1-2002 and 8-31-2004.

In the interchange program, youth are matched with a child from the other country of the same gender. At least 6 Jacksonville youth and a well-trained adult leader will participate in the interchange as the USA delegation in each delegation.

In the interchanges, the other country’s children will visit Jacksonville for 2 weeks and the Jacksonville children will live with the family of their international partner for two weeks during the same summer. The hosting phases may reverse, and all dates are tentative.

During the hosting phase in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville families participate in a variety of outings that they plan with the Interchange leader and share their family life. This program encourages a deeper understanding of another culture by enabling young people to live as family members.

CISV 101s

At a CISV 101, prospective youth and parents can hear about CISV educational programs from youth and adult participants.  A CISV 101 is the main way that our chapter recruits new members.

CISV Jr. Branch Members in Action
Olivia in Jordan

Jr. Branch Local Junior Representative (aka JB President) and experienced CISVer, Olivia was awarded a scholarship to attend the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, in cooperation with American Councils for International Education.  This is a summer  language immersion programs in locations where the eight NSLI-Y languages are spoken. NSLI-Y immerses participants in the cultural life of the host country, giving them formal and informal language practice and sparking a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures.
Olivia says “my experience in Amman, Jordan was one of the most amazing opportunities I have ever had. It exposed me to reality of Middle Eastern culture and to the beauty of the Arabic language. Though the program was intensive, it was well worth it because I was able to return with knowledge about something I was very passionate about and a new understanding of the Middle East.”

Village Selection Overnight – Riverside Presbyterian Day School (830 Oak St 32205).  Overnight event to select youth (age 11 or 16 and 17)  for the CISV Village program.

Fri, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday 
Winter Minicamp – this is a long weekend of CISV activities for youth age 10-18 planned by the CISV Jacksonville Junior Branch Board members, a group of teenagers that run the youth part of our chapter.
